In the series "Junge Leute" we meet young people of today, their friends and families, from different parts of Germany and also Austria. They all have different backgrounds and represent a various range of lifestyles. We take part in their interests, hobbies and thoughts. What are their ambitions and plans for the future? Is it like this by us? Compare, learn, discuss and enjoy!

In the introduction of each episode we get to know the area where the main person lives. The dialogues are unscripted and spontaneous. A linguistic expert has been present throughout the recordings and production work.

Meet:

Xenia in Berlin, 17 years old and born in Moscow. She moved to Berlin five years ago, when her mother married a German actor. Xenia's stepfather has founded a youth center in east Berlin called "Das Haus", where Xenia joins a theatre group.

Markus in Mösern, lives in a small Tyrol village in Austria, where his mother runs a pension. Markus goes to school in Innsbruck; a hotel –and restaurant school, and he has one year left to his exam. We also meet Markus on his snowboard and his girlfriend Inez .

Heike & Kathrin in Beiersdorf, two sisters who live in a small village called Beiersdorf, close to the Polish border. The sisters live in a former farmerhouse, together with parents and grandparents.They go to Gymnasium and have in the calm and silent countryside a lot of time for their interests: pets and animals, music, cooking and to write lyrics and poems.

Matthias in Stralsund who goes to "realschule". He has got a sister and a brother and his parents run a "Gaststätte". His hobbies are boats and sailing. He has got a driver´s licens for motorboats and joins "Club Maritim", where young people learn and practice.

Nathalie in Köln who studies German at the University. She also actively takes part in the carneval in Köln, where she for instance is the presenter of a youth show. In the film we see scenes from the carneval, with all colourful dresses and a lot of action.

Philipp in München who lives in the suburb. He feels that the schoolwork is not creative enought. His interests are music (techno), art (grafitti), computer games and Star Trek. He is also an active scout and takes care of his own groupe with young scouts. In the film we also see the "Christkindlmarkt" at the Marienplatz in Munich.
